ELVIS is still #1Texas Monthly's Top 100 sites in TexasHouston online photographer Bob Derr's Elvis page is sort of like computer folk art. Derr leads you from screen to screen by deftly asking the obvious--"Did the King love Cars?" "Did the King love Jumpsuits?" The graphics of the cars and jumpsuits that follow are fairly amazing. You can e-mail in your favorite Elvis song too. MagellanCome to the Blue Suede Page to confirm that the Cult of Elvis lives. Long Live the King is a smartly organized, though sparse, Web page dedicated to Elvis Presley, his cars, and his jumpsuits. Arranged as a kind of virtual tour of one Elvis worshipper's shrine, the site offers color photos of the King's grave site, Graceland, his famous outfits, and cool wheels such as his favorite Caddys and a black Stutz Bearcat. There's even a picture of the American eagle cape that Elvis threw into the audience at the end of his "Aloha From Hawaii" concert. This Elvis fan matches his collection of photos from Graceland with gushy prose: "My favorite place at Graceland was just standing on the KING's front porch. It just felt cool knowing I was standing on ELVIS' doorstep." Thankyaverymuch.Fierce.comSo, this Karen Derr and Big Bad Bob have been writing so much lately. These folks are truly amazing. They must have over a hundred sites that they have created. But, most of them are totally whacked! Before recently, I thought that they must or better be getting paid for all of this. I mean, are not billions of dollars being made online? Then, came Elvis. Elvis is still #1 has to be the most ridiculous site yet. Compared to this site, the Museum of Dirt is mainstream. I mean, the last thing that the world needs is another page, word or even another thought about the legendary maker of rock-n-roll. But, that didn't stop 'em from making a whole new site. Thank God the ridiculous didn't stop there. Fortunately, they took it a bit further to include pictures of his cars, his jump suits, house, you know, kind of like...well...Elvis. No, the site is not a comprehensive Elvis mainstay. There are much better and more informed Elvis sites out there, but that is exactly why this site is so absurd. It's just another Elvis site developed by a couple who apparently do not get out of the house too often. Hey, don't get me wrong. This is no insult. I live for people like this I love sites like this, completely pointless obstructions of cyberspace or just plain silly.Netsurfer Digest 01.35ELVIS LIVES ON THE WEB - Just when you were hoping Elvis had finally succumbed to the steak in his heart, along comes another Web site devoted to the King. This one has excellent original photos of Graceland, Elvis's internal combustion stable, and a jumpsuit-o-rama of Presleyan excess. The site also includes connections to other Elvis pages. Supposedly, one can see the King's image in the background of one of the pages, like that Jesus in the tortilla thing. We'll let you decide for yourself. Thank you, thank you very much.Home PC's 1996 500 Best Websites "Peoples Choice"Site du JourAmong the sites dedicated to the late Elvis Presley this is a gem. Big Bad Bob is the self-proclaimed "... More Than Awesome Digitographer to the Stars" and in spite of that, isn't a bad photographer either. Unlike most sites with heavy graphic content, Bob's is set up so as not to overload you or your browser. His Elvis related images are the nicest I've ever seen, and even if thelegend of the King is lost on you a visit to this site is worth the time.Big Bad Bob is actually Robert Derr from Houston, Texas, USA. His home page should be visited if you like the Elvis stuff you see. The Gallery of Galleries has the same efficient set-upas the ELVIS is still #1 pages. The "Texas Black Bra" image is brilliant.Site du Jour - ReduxWhile researching Dead Elvis Week and looking at the various sites available I couldn't help but compare all of the Graceland related pages to this one. Originally Site du Jour of the Day on February 22, 1997, Big Bad Bob's ELVIS is still #1 continues to capture my attention in that it is the most subtle and well done site of them all. The 1997 Tourist Season in Memphis has been dominated by people traveling to tour Elvis' estate and little else. When the King purchased this property there was probably a degree of rural charm left in that part of town all but gobbled up by the shops and "museums" one now finds on Elvis Presley Boulevard. I personally think that Elvis would not appreciate the way the neighborhood has turned out, but would probably like Mr. Derr's site. What you will see here is a collection of excellentphotographs taken inside and outside of Graceland of objects and at angles you might not experience even with a visit to Tennessee. The text offers a likewise unique look at the place, with Bob as your guide and no long lines, sobbing fans or security personnel to move you along you'll want to visit again and again. Plus "ELVIS is still #1" has been written up in newspapers and magazines across the United States far too many times to mention here! Long Live "The King of Rock & Roll"!!!
The Gallery of GalleriesThe Net MagazineBob Derr is a zany suit-turned-photographer,and his home page is drenched with that mid-life, just-wanna-have-fun kind of attitude. Joking aside, Derr is obviously talented; his photos of Greece are postcard perfect. He's also a cut-up: check out Bob's Lingerie Gallery (it's not what you think), or his own mini-tribute to the King, which boasts full-color snaps of Bob's favorite Elvis jumpsuits. Also of note: "24 Seconds in Cyberspace." (Family values bonus: at the bottom of every page is a reminder that allBob's work is dedicated to his father--a nice touch that brought a smile to my face. Who says the Internet is indecent?) Content: Good - Aesthetic: Excellent - TechnoSmart: GoodExciteThere are some who will be disappointed that Mr. Derr's site (Bob Derr Does Lingerie) bears little resemblance to a Victoria's Secret catalog. On the other hand, so to speak, those browsing for non-onanistic reasons will be pleased with this nicely designed site offering a good-sized portfolio of clever photos of lingerie in some unlikely places.MagellanNot actually the Web site of Web sites, but it is a fine collection of the photographer's whimsical photographs. Bob Derr's good-natured presence includes both silly and surreal photos of everything from nature scenes to lingerie still lifes (without human models). All photos are black and white and come with short descriptions. Interesting sections include captured video stills and "24 Seconds in Cyberspace," a tongue-in-cheek mockery of a more famous Internet event. In Derr's tribute, the photographer chose to take and upload as many photographs as he could in 24 seconds. The result was a striking collection of two rather ordinary shots, but it well characterizes the impudent nature of this site. Netsurfer Digest 02.15Bob Derr, the "More Than Awesome Digitographer 2 The Stars" (that is a quote, folks), has put together the Gallery of Galleries to exhibit his still and captured video images. Netsurfers will find color and black-and-white images, Derr's favorite image of the week, and an interesting feature entitled "24 Seconds in Cyberspace", which details a 24-second RV fire and the lone salvaged photograph. The Houston-based artist has also incorporated links to business, art, and an Elvis site (see NSD 1.35) into this well designed series of pages.

See, it turns out that a certain Big Bad Bob entertains the notion of eating cat food. (Yes, we know.) In fact Bob revels in the idea at Cat Food....
